One Good Thing vs Readwise
the short answer
Readwise brings back the highlights you have already made, so it earns its keep if you read and highlight. One Good Thing needs no reading history: one new idea a day, in under two minutes.
why people compare them
Most good ideas get lost the same way: you read them, nod, and by Thursday they are gone. These two apps answer that differently.
Readwise collects the highlights you make in Kindle, Apple Books, Instapaper and elsewhere, then brings them back for review. It also has Reader, for articles, newsletters and RSS. One Good Thing needs no reading history at all: one idea a day from 12 fields, and what you carry becomes your own collection.

which one is for you
Readwise, if
- You highlight as you read
- You use a Kindle or a read-later app
- You want old highlights to come back at you
- You like tags, notes and search
One Good Thing, if
- You do not want to bring the material yourself
- You want ideas from outside your usual reading
- You read less than you mean to
- You like ideas written for you, in plain language
the honest part
Nothing to have read first
Readwise needs you to have read something first. One Good Thing needs a quiet minute and nothing else. The idea is already waiting, probably from a field you have never opened, and carrying it is the only decision.
Some people run both: Readwise for the shelf they already have, One Good Thing for what is not on it.
